In spite of the sharp growth Indonesia has been knowing for 30 years, it remains an important agricultural country. Indonesian agriculture depends largely on climatic conditions. Indeed, the warm El Nino's stream caused a big aridity in the country. However, a good monsoon can bring a very good productivity.
This aridity, qualified as an ecological disaster, urged Indonesia to import about 8 million tons of rice in 1998. In 1997, Indonesia was the third producer of rice Paddy in the world.

Farmland surface area:

The areas under cultivation include arable lands and those with permanent crops. They represent 30,987 hectares in Indonesia.
